More than 674 Asiatic lions are protected in the park today, too. Also, this number is increasing annually. This makes Gir a crucial wildlife hotspot in India.

Why is Gir Special for Wildlife Lovers?

But with hard work by conservationists, the population has multiplied, and this is a good thing. In 2005, the lion population was 359. Then, it rose to 411 in 2010. Most importantly, the number of lions grew to 674 in 2020. It's a fantastic achievement for wildlife protection.
